Photomatix - HDR Software

HDR processing provides amazing dynamics and ranges of contrast to images that are otherwise impossible. It is that contrast that distinguishes not only a dark shadow from the sunlight, but shades within the shadow and texture within the shade.

Gary will be presenting the latest version of Photomatix to the San Diego Photoshop User Group. Gary's talk will encompass the following points:

1)      Overview of HDR and LDR imagery

2)      How to take the proto-HDR images to give you the best result including tips and tricks to make the process easier.

3)      How to process the proto-HDR images in Photomatix to make HDR images.

4)      How to tone map the HDR images into beautiful LDR images

5)      Post-processing tricks to get the best result possible.

6)      Using Exposure Blending for alternate approaches to image enhancement.

7)      Using batch processing to use your time efficiently.

In addition, Gary will provide us with a special code to obtain a 20% discount for Photomatix and will be offering two free copies of Photomatix for a raffle.

About the presenter:

His day job is rather different; he's a scientific glassblower for the Chemistry Department at California State University, Los Angeles. He's also an author having written "The Laboratory Companion," and writes reviews of Mac related hardware and software for Applelinks.com. But for over 30 years he's been taking photos and the last 7 years he's been shooting digital. However, for over a year now, his photographic hobby has turned into a very focused passion: HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography.

It all started when he did a review of Photomatix for Applelinks. He gave the software a high rating but complained about the manual. To make a long story short, he wrote a manual for Photomatix. (Unfortunately due to scheduling problems with versions, Gary's manual is not quite available from HDRSoft (the company that makes Photomatix).)
